Stamp Simply #100 - Happy Birthday!

It’s a Birthday Party! — Yes, today is Stamp Simply’s 100th Challenge, so that’s good enough reason to celebrate for me!!! Thank you ALL for coming to read our challenges, check out our projects and play along with us over the last 100 weeks — we’ve loved every minute of it!!! So, it only follows that today’s challenge is to make a birthday card — that’s it — how simple and how fun!!! Above you can see my gift chicken birthday card, that matches one of the projects I have to show you below! (My "gift chicken" stamp is from Whipper Snapper, and my card design was completely inspired by this card I saw on Kendra Wietstock's blog!)

And going beyond the challenge, we at Stamp Simply ARE having a Birthday Party, and YOU are invited!!! Today many of the designers who have worked with us in the past in any capacity — Retired Designer, Guest Designer, Party Participant — have been invited to join in our celebration to bring some fun projects and ideas to YOU!!! We have a wide variety of things going on. My post today is quite long, so instead of listing all the blogs that are participating today, I invite you to hop over to Sharon's blog for the complete list! Then I hope you can find some time to sit down with a nice cup of coffee or tea and start cruising to see what you can find — have fun everyone — and THANKS for coming!!!
For my project today, I decided to create a birthday reminder book using my Bind-It-All. For making as many cards as I do, I'm terrible at getting them sent out! So I thought maybe a little notebook that fits in my purse would be nice to have for reminders of not only birthdays, but thank you notes and other greetings. So many Sundays I sit in church and make notes in my bulletin to remind me to send cards to people who are in need, and then what happens to the bulletin when I get home? Yep... in the trash without another thought! So hopefully my new little notebook will help!
To start out, I chose some fabulous new paper that I just got from My Mind's Eye, and some chipboard coasters. In this picture there are 2 rectangular coasters, but I've also used some 4x4 coasters, too. (My coasters come from ecletic Paperie.) Here I have enough paper to cover both sides of 2 coasters, and a scalloped embellishment.
I used a foam brush and Modge Podge to adhere the paper to the coasters.
Once the Modge Podge is dry, I used a heavy-duty emery board to sand all the edges.

After sanding (and creating a LOT of dust!) my paper is nicely rounded to the edges of the coaster, and ready for a final coat of Modge Podge.
For extra layers and my scalloped border, I apply more Modge Podge to adhere, then another coat to seal it down.
Done, and dry! The coasters on the left are the 4x4's that will be in the next photos.
I line the coaster up in my Bind-It-All evenly, and cut my holes for the binding.

Ooooops... excuse me while I take a momentary break! Hubby brought me a fudge sundae from the Dari-ette!
OK, back to business! I cut some filler notebook paper to size for the inside of my notebook as well as 3 pieces of designer paper for dividers within the book. Here's everything with the binding holes cut.
I have some old white coil binding, shown here that I use to bind both of my notebooks. You'll see the finished product below.
A great alternative if you don't have a Bind-It-All is to just punch some holes in the chipboard coasters with your Crop-a-Dile, and use some binder rings instead!
And here's my finished product! I'm lovin' this new MME paper! My scalloped border is made using a Martha Stewart punch available at Hope Stamps Eternal. The crocheted flower is hand-made by my boss' Mom (and available at Toyrifix!)
I have the inside divided into 3 sections and figure I'll label them "birthday", "thank you" and "other" (for get well wishes, thinking of you, and other cards), and used my SU! round tab punch to make the dividers easier to find on the right side.
And here's the 4x4 version, also using some yummy new My Mind's Eye paper, and some Zva crystals and and a Zva flower for embellishment (also available at Hope Stamps Eternal)! The scalloped border punch used here is from EK Success.
Since this one is smaller, I alternated two tabs on the right and one on the left!
Would you find a little notebook like this handy? Well, guess what? To celebrate the 100th Stamp Simply challenge, I'm giving this 4x4 notebook away! Leave a comment here, and tell me your best birthday memory! I'll draw a winner on Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. EST! Only one comment per person, please and make sure your contact information is included with your comment (either by including your email address in the comment or make sure your Blogger profile has it... please make it easy to find!) so I can let you know that you won! (*Please note, the contest has ended!*)

Good luck, and thanks for stopping by today! Remember, you can find links to all the party girls projects and prizes by stopping at Sharon's blog to view the complete list!

  7. I really don't have that great of a memory...not sure that this would be my best birthday but it's what comes to mind...my 21st birthday was celebrated in Las Vegas (except the trip was a week early!). I didn't get to play the machines but it was still fun!

  8. What a wonderful idea. I know what you mean about the notes in the bulletin and then not saving it. My favorite birthday memory is probably coming up this Sat. I am celebrating my 60th birthday with family and friends. I'm really looking forward to it. Hope to take lots of photos.

  10. WOW! What a terrific notebook tutorial. I've never made one and now I want that Bind-It-All. Thanks for sharing. My best BD remembrance is when I was in Australia for my BD with my DH, and visiting the Aboriginal Center and watching them play the digirido with circular breathing. They went on for what seemed like hours. I will never forget the three weeks there. It was a super BD trip.

  17. Tammy, I LOVE this project - what a fabulous tutorial. I have considered a Bind-it-All, but never took the plunge, feeling it wouldn't get enough use to justify the price, but OOOHHH -- you are making me drool!!! LOVE this!!! And GREAT blog candy -- but I'm not entering for that -- just commenting -- LOL!!!

  18. Tammy, that card is just WAY too cute!! Way to use inspiration!!
    And that notebook--absolutely adorable!

My favorite birthday memory is probably my 10th or 11th birthday (I honestly cannot remember which). I was having two friends over to spend the night for my birthday. My mom suggested that we go and get a frozen treat from the store (July birthday). So we went. I chose banana popsicles.

When we came back--our living room was decked out with streamers and balloons and posters and my two friends jumped up and said "Surprise!" (Mom had left the door unlocked for them to come in and do that while we were out.) It was a WONDERFUL surprise.

  20. Love your project. I have looked at the binder and think I would like one but have wondered how you put the coil in -by hand or the machine.

I remember my mom always making me a orange cake with coconut frosting as she and I loved coconut. Even after I left home she would bring a cake to the doctor's office where I worked so I could share with the staff. I am 70 and mom has been gone a few years but I fondly remember "my cakes".

Thanks for a chance to win. tfs

My favorite bd memory is from 2 years ago. I was given the gift of spending the whole day stamping or doing whatever I wanted...no cleaning, cooking etc. The boys (then 12&14) made me a scavenger hunt and had sweet little gifts everywhere. I will treasure this forever.

    PS: yummy dessert!

But anyway my kids and my hubby made it very special AND I got to go to a scrapbook retreat at a wonderful lodge with my friends for the weekend so it was just a really great birthday! stamps_scrapbooksbyrona at hotmail dot com HAVE A SUPER DAY!

  33. Love your little book, and I'm sure it would be very helpful as the senior moments come more and more frequently for me! My favorite birthday memory was at 55. Hadn't spent my birthday with my sister since I was married, and she made it a memorable one, with a white stretch limo, champagne and dinner at Ruth's Chris restaurant. I prefer quiet family dinners, but this surprise was special, a once-in-a-lifetime event.

    ReplyDelete
  34. One birthday we went out for dinner with a large bunch of our friend (every body was acting a little off but I put it off to a full moon) and after dinner my future husband tossed a little bag at me and in it was my engagement ring. I must have yelled really loud because practicly the whole restaurant came up to see my ring. And we got married on his birthday. That would be one date I don't have to write down.

  35. Tammy, you make some of the cutest things with these coasters! I LOVE this little book with the crocheted flower, and I especially love the tabs on the side! Awesome!
My best birthday I can recall is when I was 10 and I got my first bike - a shiny blue Schwinn, complete with the newest feature - a horn button! LOL! I know I'm giving away my age, but that was my most memorable birthday ever!

  38. Wahoo! Thanks for sharing the detail of your project. I looked at it and thought, "No way I can do that!" But after seeing the step by step, "Hmm, maybe I can do it!" FABULOUS!

My fav bday memory is decorating my birthday cakes. My mom would let me pick a cake from her cookbook. She'd have it baked and cut into whatever shape; then my friends and I got busy with the frosting. It's one of those things were the process was the important piece, since some of the cakes were more than a bit wonky!

  39. LOVE the little books. SO cute.
My best memory is waking up at my grandparent's home in KY (we lived in Florida) to see a foot of snow on the ground. Now that is how Christmas Day (which is my birthday) should look!

  40. Tammy this is super cute!...and the sundae looked yummy! My best birthday was when I was about 10 and all I wanted was a pink dress and a pink birthday cake! I'm way older than that now and still love pink!

  41. Oh Tammy, these are wonderful---and I know EXACTLY what you mean about sitting in church and writing stuff down and then.....it's gone! You don't have to give me a prize, but my favorite BD memory was when I was thirteen, my cousins and I all dressed up like The Association and sang "Windy"--that was one of my first-ever albums--using flashlights as "microphones"!! Yes, and I am giving away my age too! :D

  55. My favorite birthday memory is of going downtown with my Dad to pick out a toy for my birthday. In those days (early 1950's) going downtown (on the bus) was a big deal. If I remember correctly, the toy I picked was a liitle cabinet with a sink in the top of it. Your little note book is awesome. Makes me want to do something with all the little coasters I've collected from various restaurants. Once I mentioned to the waiter that I was taking my coaster home to use in my cardmaking/scrapbooking and he handed me a big stack of coasters to add to my stash. What a nice young man. I won't mention the name of the restaurant! Thanks for the chance to win. Iris Soscia

Tammy, what fun little projects! My favorite birthday memory? I actually have 2. The first one was when my boyfriend (who is now my husband!) planned a very special dinner for the 2 of us. He set up a table for 2 with pizza and red roses. Then he had a treasure hunt for my present. I'd been burned pretty badly by a previous boyfriend, so wasn't all that trusting. But I eventually found the present in the microwave! It was a precious moment's figurine. That was definitely memorable!
The second favorite birthday memory was on my 25th. My oldest daughter was born on that day. She's now 14. So I guess this coming birthday will be very memorable also!
Thanks for the chance to win.

Best memory - the little bracelet my dad bought me for my birthday when I was like 5-7 years old. I still have it and wear it on my birthday. For my dad, who hated shopping, to find this really means a lot to me especially now that he is gone. I am a St. Paddy's girl and the bracelet has little shamrocks and little green fake gems on it. It is really delicate and fun to wear.

Again, love your projects and thanks for sharing.

  70. OMG - How I would love, love, love to win this blog!!

This birthday memory probably sounds a bit morbid but it really is wonderful.

My dad was in palliative care and we were told on the Friday that he wouldn't make it through the weekend. My birthday just happened to be the Saturday.

I am positive that my Dad's final gift for me was to allow my siblings and myself to spend an awesome and funfilled evening at the hospital on my birthday. My siblings all stayed with me until midnight ....... Dad held on until Sunday night, a day after my birthday before he passed on.

I know, not your normal memorable birthday but we had so much fun and laughter while playing cards at the hospital while our Dad surely was so happy seeing all his kids together having a wonderful time together.

Thanks for making me think of these memories.......Nancy

My favourite birthday memory, ummm... I think I'm still waiting for my hubby to remember my birthday, LOL!! I loved my mother's 60th birthday party - we went out to a Mexican restaurant, my daughter wore a sombrero and rode a donkey, and we came home for birthday cake - it was fabulous night!
