Creative Blog Hop

Soooo…. last weekend, I woke up one morning to find I had a message from the fabulous Amy Rohl!  If you don’t know Amy, you should!  She has one of the most creative minds in the stamping community… it never ceases to amaze me how she comes up with the neatest ideas for using stamps and dies in ways they weren’t intended!  This cloud-shaped card of hers is one of the reasons why I bought the Jumbo Cloud Die-Namics (and have yet to CASE the card!)  And have you SEEN the Angry Birds she made from balloon dies?  It’s so awesome!  And of course, I’m partial to Hello Kitty, so I just loved how she made this card!  But, I digress… anyway, she wanted to know if I would be a part of this Creative Blog Hop that’s going around because (in her words!) I “inspire” her!  :)  What a thrill, and an honor!

Let me tell you a bit about the Creative Blog Hop: it is an ongoing blog hop design that works on a nominating system, where I nominate three other designers who I admire and who inspire me. The idea is to learn a bit about other creative bloggers by answering four questions.

Question 1: What am I working on right now?
Right now a whole lot of nothing!  I’ve been quite lazy lately (when it comes to stamping!)  I think it’s just the summer time, and the desire to spend time outdoors or going places, or just watching a movie with my hubs.  I’ve been suffering from a great lack of creative mojo, and even a lack of desire to get in my room and stamp.  Even new stuff hasn’t helped (but I’ll keep shopping anyway!)  I do however have a little something in the works, because in a few weeks I’ll be rejoining a design team that I had previously had to step down from.  :)  So I hope you’ll stay tuned!

Question 2: How does my work differ from others in my genre?

I honestly don’t feel like my work is much different from a lot of what’s already out there.  I wish it did, but I’m very much a follow-the-trends kind of girl.

Question 3: Why do I create what I do?
I create what I do simply for the love of crafting, stamping and bringing joy to others with a handmade card.  I’ve always been crafty… sewing, needlework, crocheting, knitting, etc.  Even around the time I got pregnant with my oldest daughter I had decided to learn to quilt.  But impending motherhood put a huge stop to that!  The thing I’ve always loved the most about stamping is that it’s one craft where you can actually get something done.  I can see a card through from concept to completion.  Unlike all the unfinished cross-stitch projects I have stashed away!

Question 4: How does my creative process work?
My creative process works in several different ways.  First of all, I have to be well-organized especially with design team commitments.  So I keep everything written down on the calendar I carry in my purse.  After that, I very often turn to card sketches for inspiration, and many times print them out so I can make notes about ideas (sometimes I even do this while I’m at work!)  I used to use my designer papers to inspire my colors choices, but I don’t use them that much anymore, so the next place I turn to is Pinterest for color combos.  And when I’m really into creative mode, I have had many times where a design idea keeps me awake at night, or I wake up with an idea!  I love those times!

And now for my nominations!  These three ladies are all uber-inspiring to me in their work and I was thrilled that they all said yes when I asked them to participate!

Arielle Gordon – Snappy Stampin’
Arielle’s card-making style has long been one I have admired and wished that I could duplicate.  I just love her bright, bold use of colors and the seemingly simple design elements that she puts together to make a masterpiece.  I also love that all of her cards are darling little squares!  A few of my favorites include this Thanks card (that I’m currently trying to CASE!), this FANTASTIC Thanks a Bunch card (LOVE the multi-colored dots around the carrots!), and this sweet Fly card made with a paint sample card.

Monika Davis – M.A.D. Stamper
My fellow Color Throwdown team member has got it goin’ on!  I’ve always loved Monika’s scrappy style and great layouts.  She combines stamps, washi tape, vellum, flowers, and much more to create great collage-style designs on her cards that knock my socks off.  And she is the QUEEN of those fabulous little bundles of thread that you see on so many cards lately!  Only difference is, no one makes them look as great as Monika!  A few of my very favorites include this card with gorgeous roses, (I had to cave and buy that stamp set because of Monika!), this fantastic butterfly card, and finally this darling Orange You Glad card (which uses another stamp set I HAD to buy because of Monika!)

Wida Miller – Beachorado
Wida just recently went from being a Colorado stamper to an Ohio stamper, and I got to meet her just a few weeks ago and found her to be as fabulous as her creations!  She’s a ton of fun, full of great advice, and wonderfully sweet!  The fact that her creations are top-notch is just icing on the cake.  She also recently was asked to join the Hero Arts design team!  Yes, I rub elbows with some pretty top-notch stampers, let me tell you!  I love that Wida’s style is just uniquely her own…there’s no predicting what her designs are going to look like, but you can be sure they’re always going to be fabulous, with some great unexpected design element that puts them over-the-top.  Here are a few of my Wida favorites… these cute apple cards (Who would think to simply use a circle for the apple?  I’d be saying “no apple die, no card!”), this rosy beauty (love the gorgeous roses, paired with the simple grid paper), and this fantastic collage of flowers, butterflies and die-cut words.

I hereby pass the baton to these three inspirational ladies who I admire and adore! I can't wait to see what they have to tell us next Monday, September 8th. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I hope you've enjoyed getting to know more about me.

Catered Crop-Everything Old is New Again

Linda has got a fabulous challenge for you over at the Catered Crop blog this week!  The challenge started last Sunday, but you still have several days left to join us!  Here’s the challenge in Linda’s words…
“A thread at the Splitcoast Stampers forum, Stamping Graveyard, made me nostalgic for paper craft supplies, embellishments and tools that have come, gone, come back, or left for good.
Does anyone still have a stash of foam stamps? decorative edge scissors? mulberry paper? I’m guilty of hoarding all of these and more. I say let’s bring them all back. It’s up to us! Resistance is futile!”
For this challenge just raid your paper craft stash for anything you think needs a resurgence and . . .
  • Include a link to us at Catered Crop or add our button, which you can grab on our sidebar or at our {button gallery}.
  • Link up and link often, but be sure you link up by 8:00 PM EST on Saturday, September 13.
  • In honor of the Splitcoast Stampers thread that started this all you can also upload your project to the Splitcoast Stampers gallery with the keyword NEWAGAIN.
  • Keep the party hopping by visiting the other players and leaving comments.
  • Check back with us on September 14 to see if you’ve won an opportunity to be a guest designer.
Here is Linda’s inspiration board…
NewAgain1
What do you think?  Do any of those items look familiar?  Are they still inhabiting the shelves in your craft room?  Then get busy!
Now, for me personally… I tend to get rid of old stuff that I don’t plan to use again so I really struggled with this challenge.  I do have eyelets, brads, swirly clips… mostly just because I haven’t had the heart to toss them.  But I also found an item… I don’t even remember what they used to be called… but I know these were from a company called Crafty Secrets.  So I used this “fabric scrap” on my card, along with some machine stitching (another thing that seems to have lost some popularity recently!)
Sunflower Smile by Tammy Hershberger
I borrowed the layout for my card from the Freshly Made Sketch #152 this week.  The yellow gingham was a nice pairing for the sunflower image, I though and I added a woodgrain background stamp to the navy blue cardstock panel that was cut with the Blueprints 13 Die-Namics.  I also used the Blueprints 11 to die-cut the “smile” for the sentiment, using a double-layer for extra dimension.
Be sure to stop over at the Catered Crop blog for all the challenge details, then raid your stash and join us!
Thanks for stopping by!

My color combo comes from the colourQ challenge #257 this week.
Here’s the sketch…

Color Throwdown #308

CTD308 cropped
It’s time for my favorite part of the week… Hump Day and Color Throwdown day!  :)  Are you ready for another challenge?  Joan is our hostess this week and she’s trying to hold on to the last bits of Summer with these bright, sunny colors…
swatch 308
With the shade of orange in there, I had no choice but to use my new Fresh ‘n Fruity stamp set from Reverse Confetti.  Ever since this set was released, I saw so many cute cards using it so I finally gave up resisting and ordered it last week!
CTD308
I’ve got lots of polka dots happening on my card this week!  LOL  But I just love ‘em… polka dots are timeless.  I also used the September Sketch for You to Try from Reverse Confetti for my card layout.  Starting with the orange card stock base, I added a white panel that was embossed with the Large Polka Dots stencil from My Favorite Things, and then added two strips of yellow polka dot designer paper from Echo Park that were cut with the Horizontal Stitched Strips Die-Namics.  The bright pink tag was die-cut using the Tag Me Confetti Cuts from RC.  I stamped the tag with Razzle Berry hybrid ink using the BG Diagonal Stripes background stamp, and then stamped the sentiment.  I finished my card with an orange polka dot ribbon, and some enamel dots.
I added another orange and the rest of the sentiment on the inside…

Deconstructed Sketch #166

Deconstructed Sketch #166 cropped by Tammy Hershberger
Hello friends, how are you?  I’m fabulous!  I’m currently enjoying a 6-day weekend, using a few vacation days from work to get some odd jobs done around the house, and just NOT have to go to work!  Ahhhhhh…..
It’s time today for another Deconstructed Sketch!  I think you’ll like this one…
sketch166
Cool, right?  Yeah, I like this one a lot!  My first thought was “what am I going to use for that long center panel?” and then it hit me that I just got the Topiary Trio stamp set and dies from Papertrey Ink!  The tallest tree was perfect for this sketch!
Deconstructed Sketch #166 by Tammy Hershberger
I die-cut the tree from Old Olive cardstock, and sponged the edged with Jellybean Green hybrid ink from My Favorite Things.  Then using some Whip Cream card stock, I die cut the Vertical Greetings Die-Namics and stamped it in Natural hybrid ink with the BG Linen background stamp.  I stamped the pot for the tree with Kraft hybrid ink, and the tree trunk with Hot Fudge hybrid ink, then added the tree with dimensional adhesive.  On the Razzleberry card stock panel behind the tree, I stamped the BG Romantic Script background with Razzleberry hybrid ink.  Then the panel behind that was cut from Old Olive card stock using Blueprints 13.  On the Razzleberry card stock base, I added a panel cut from Blueprints 13 with River Rock card stock, and stamped with the Cover-a-Card Greenery from Impression Obsession in Grout Gray hybrid ink.  I finished the design with a scalloped border cut from Old Olive card stock with the Blueprints 14 Die-Namics, and some enamel dots.
DS166 inside
On the inside I added a sentiment from the Topiary Trio stamp set stamped in Razzleberry hybrid ink, and a tree stamped in Grout Gray hybrid ink.

Color Throwdown #307

Color Throwdown #307 cropped by Tammy Hershberger

Hi friends!  Time for another Color Throwdown challenge, and Monika is our hostess this week with a great Summertime inspiration photo…

swatch 307

Now, as much as I love my Splendid Sunflower stamps and Die-Namics, I refrained from using them today!  I wanted to, but decided against it.  Instead I went with this really simple design because my mojo is still missing!

Color Throwdown #307 by Tammy Hershberger

I started out with a Pacific Point card stock base, then layered it with a Sweet Tooth card stock panel that was stamped in Grout Gray hybrid ink with the BG Diagonal Stripes background stamp.  Then I took a piece of yellow dotted paper, and die cut using the Blueprints 15.  I die-cut two piece of Pacific Point card stock using the Happy Hellos Die-Namics, then glued those together and applied a coating of Glossy Accents.  The flower was cut using Blueprints 12, and layered with a blue button.

Be sure to stop over at the CTD blog for all the challenge details, and visit my Throwdown sisters for more inspiration.  Oh, AND take notice of a new Color Throwdown team member!!!  I’m so stinkin’ excited!  We loved having Jodi Collins join us as August Guest Designer so much, we asked her to stick around permanently!  Woohoo, welcome to the team, girlfriend!

Deconstructed Sketch #165

Deconstructed Sketch #165 cropped by Tammy Hershberger
Oh my, how time flies!  Here it is Thursday once again, and it’s time for another Deconstructed Sketch!
sketch165
This one is definitely going to be used again… LOVE this layout, and the limitless possibilities!  I decided to show some love to some neglected stamps in my stash this week, so here’s my card…
Deconstructed Sketch #165 by Tammy Hershberger
I stopped by the Color Q blog and found the colors for challenge #255 to be a nice starting point for my creation.  My only exception is I had to add a few yellow flowers to my bouquet for some contrast.  :)  My flowers are all from the Wplus9 Design Fresh Cut Florals stamp set.  On the Soft Sky circle in the center, I stamped the new BG Cheesecloth background stamp from My Favorite Things.  I used some Grout Gray card stock in the background, stamping the lower half with the BG Diagonal Stripes background in Olive hybrid ink.  On the top half I stamped an Impression Obsession polka dot background stamp using Grout Gray hybrid ink.  I actually had a happy accident occur when I did that.  The stamp must not have been cleaned very well from the last time I used it, and I ended up with some shades of lavender and green that mixed with the Grout Gray ink, but still goes well with the colors of the card!
Be sure to stop over at Jen’s blog for all the details on the Deconstructed Sketch today, and visit the rest of the team for more inspiration…

(I’ve got quite a bit of products from My Favorite Things that I used on this card, but since they’re in the process of launching a new website, I think the links will change so for now I don’t have any links for you!)
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Color Throwdown #306

CTD306 close-up
It’s time for Color Throwdown #306, and this week Cindy has some great colors for us, inspired by the wonderful blueberries in season right now!
swatch 306
This is a color combo a little outside the box for me but I ended up just loving it!  GREAT choice, Cindy!
Here’s my card, using some new goodies from My Favorite Things…
Color Throwdown #306 by Tammy Hershberger
I pulled out the awesome Geek is Chic Glasses Die-Namics, and cut two from Nightshift Blue card stock.  And I stamped the sentiment from the new CS Eye Charts stamp set in Nightshift Blue premium dye ink on Whip Cream card stock, then die cut with the Pierced Rectangle STAX Die-Namics.  On the Grapesicle card stock background, I used the new Jumbo Polka Dot stencil to emboss.  The layout for my card was inspired by the current Sweet Sunday Sketch #232, but I turned it to accommodate the longer panel with the eye chart.  On the right side I added a Nightshift Blue card stock flag from the Mix & Match Banners die set, and the flag was stamped with the BG Grid background in Whip Cream pigment ink.
Be sure to stop over at the CTD blog for all the challenge details, and please join us this week!  Also be sure to see my Throwdown sisters for more inspiration…

The Geek!

So, this past week My Favorite Things came out with some new Die-Namics… the Geek is Chic Glasses.  And I don’t know where it came from but this idea for this card just developed from those great geeky glasses!.
The Geek
I cut out the glasses from three layers of Black Licorice card stock, then glued them together and applied some Glossy Accents.  The crew-cut hair was cut from Tangy Orange card stock using the Fresh Cut Grass Die-Namics.  And then, I was able to borrow the Suit & Tie Die-Namics from my friend Kirsty (thanks girlfriend!) for the tie!  I cut the tie from Blu Raspberry card stock, then cut strips from Wild Cherry card stock using one of the Fishtail Flags STAX dies.  Around the border of the Smooth White card stock base, I sponged Black Licorice hybrid ink using the Diagonal Stripes stencil.
My card measures 9 1/4” x 4” and will fit in a #10 envelopes.  However, I really prefer my cards to open from the bottom, so I cut another piece of Smooth White card stock measuring 4” x 11” and folded it in half so it’s almost A2 size, and adhered to the back of the card front.
The Geek side view
On the inside I added another pair of glasses cut from Black Licorice card stock with the Geek is Chic Glasses, and a sentiment stamped in Steel Grey hybrid ink from the new LLD Geek is Chic stamp set.
The Geek inside
Here are my supplies…

Stamps:  LLD Geek is Chic

Accessories:  Glossy Accents (Ranger)
SO…. I hope you like my Geek!  And thanks for stopping by today!
